Letter From The Phoenix Society For Burn Survivors, Inc.
Burn Survivors Throughout The World, Inc., known from this
time on as BSTTW, on Friday June 25, 2010 received a threatening email from Christine Jurus who is the Program Coordinator for The Phoenix Society For Burn Survivors, Inc.. Ms. Jurus states in the email that BSTTW must remove the internet page, www.burnsurvivorsttw.org/wbc/wbc.html that informs the public about The Phoenix Society World Burn Congress, known from this point on as the WBC, and also raises money for the BSTTW World Burn Congress Fund that helps pay for burn survivors and family members to attend the WBC. BSTTW does not state that the nonprofit organization has anything to do with the WBC except for the fact that BSTTW raises money that is put into the BSTTW World Burn Congress Fund to be used to help BSTTW members and other burn survivors and family members attend the event. This is very shocking and a shame that The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, Inc. believes that they should send BSTTW an email threatening the nonprofit organization that they have to a certain date to remove a particular internet page or The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors will take legal action.
Ms. Jurus, The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, Inc.'s representative, does not explain the legal issues involved, does not offer a copy of their legal documents relating to The Phoenix Society's World Burn Congress that states other nonprofit organizations cannot raise money to help burn survivors, family member or their nonprofit organization members attend the WBC.
BSTTW would think that The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, Inc. would be happy if other organizations took part in helping other burn survivors and family members attend the WBC.
Below you will find a copy of the email and also URL's from other internet sites that advertise the WBC in some way or form.
From this point on BSTTW will have nothing to do with the WBC. We will not raise money to help anyone attend the WBC, we will not discuss or suggest that anyone attends the WBC. BSTTW is very sorry but the BSTTW board of directors feels that it is best to inform the public of the email from The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, Inc., that we remove the URL that is requested http://www.burnsurvivorsttw.org/wbc/wbc.html, and that unless The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, Inc. publicly apologizes for the email and their actions BSTTW will not collaborate with The Phoenix Society For Burn Survivors, Inc. or take part in The Phoenix Society World Burn Congress.
If you have any comments or suggestions relating to the actions taken by Christine Jurus and The Phoenix Society For Burn Survivors, Inc. you can send an email to BSTTW at firstname.lastname@example.org, you can contact BSTTW at 936-647-2256, you can contact The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, Inc. at the phone number that is in the email below or you can leave your comments on the BSTTW Public Message Board at http://www.burnsurvivorsttw.org/message/public/index.php.
