According to the National Fire Protection Association, the United
States has a severe fire dilemma that is more so than what is generally perceived. Nationally, there are
millions of fires, thousands of deaths, tens of thousands of injuries, and billions of dollars lost -
which makes the U.S. fire problem one of great national importance.
In 2016 there were 1,342,000 fires in the United States.
Positively there was a 3.4% increase in the number of fires in 2015. During 2016 there was an estimate of
3,390 civilian deaths and 14,650 civilian burn injuries that occurred. The number of burn injuries decreased by
6.5% since 2015. Of the 14,650 civilians injured in 2016, it is estimated that 12,775 civilians were injured
in structure fires, and of those injuries, 10,750 were injured in home structure fires. That is a decrease of
3.0 percent from 2015. Seven thousand three hundred and seventy-five of the burn injuries, occurred in one and
two family homes and manufactured homes. Three thousand three hundred and seventy-five of the burn injuried that
occurred in 2016 were in apartments. During 2016 it has also been found that 1,650 civilians were injured in
non-residential structure fires. That is an increase of 15.8 percent compaired to 2015. In 2016 one thousand and
seventy-five civilians were injured in highway vehicle fires, a 30.6 percent decrease from 2015. Other vehicle
fires, that include planes, trains, ships, construction, and farm vehicles, represent a decrease of 53.8 percent
since 2015. Nationwide every thirty seconds a burn injury occurs in the
United States. A structural fire occurs in the United States of America at the rate of one fire every fifty-nine seconds.
Every seventy-six seconds a fire department is called to respond to a fire at a residential address. Fires occur in vehicles
at the rate
of one vehicle every one hundred and twenty-two seconds. Finally it has been found that every forty-one seconds
there is an outdoor property fire. To find out more about the United States National fires, deaths and
injuries statistics go to
United States Fire Statistics or National
Fire Protection Association.
BSTTW is very proud to have an excellent group of volunteers.
Many take part in helping us do the work needed to reach our goals. Others, like Yoko Ono, Roger Federer, John Travolta,
Ed Begley Jr., Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Ronnie Milsap, Ming Tsai, the Green Bay Packers and others have donated autographed items from musicians,
actors, athletes and chiefs for the auction. Then we have people like Kevin Maedgen a burn survivor who returned to his
art work after suffering severe burns who has donated two autographed pictures for the auction. Shaibu Pelle the father
of a burn survivor has donated 18 paintings so BSTTW can raise the funding needed
to help his daughter and other burn victims.
With the help of people like you who are reading the information about the BSTTW Rebuilding Lives

will be reached.
